Voting

(April 29, 2014)

I'm angry. Not super mad, but a little. Angry enough to write this down. People not voting is the cause.

My parents have ingrained into me, that I must vote. That voting is a key principle of society. That if I want to make a difference, I should vote. That I can't complain unless I vote.

I know far too many people who don't vote. Too many of those people have complained about what the Government does.  I feel that the worst of these, is women. I mean seriously? You don't vote? People died so that you could have the vote. People were killed for trying to vote.

You have to vote.

Some of my closest friends don't vote. It makes me so mad. Some their replies are "It won't make a difference", "I'm working", "It's too much effort". I can't stand it. Your vote is counted. No matter who you vote for. Even if you spoil your fucking paper.

"None of them represent how I feel." - Spoil your paper. "What a waste". Fucking just do it. If your party of choice or opinion isn't there spoil it. Your spoilt papers are counted. I don't care who you vote for, just please for the love of god do it. Its a waste to not vote. Council elections? Vote. European Parliament? Vote. General Elections? Fucking vote.

The worst of these people are the ones who complain. I understand you might not have been able to vote in the General Elections yet, but not voting for previous choices indicates you are unlikely to be bothered when it does come about. It pisses me off.

"Its too much effort". HOW? YOUR GOVERNMENT DEPENDS ON IT. ITS LITERALLY A LITTLE FUCKING TICK OR CROSS OR SOME INDICATION THAT YOU HAVE PICKED. YOU GO IN, YOU TICK, YOU LEAVE. ITS SO FUCKING EASY.

Not signed up to vote? Go fucking do it. I don't care what your excuse is. Just please go and sign yourself up to vote. You don't care at all about your government? Really? What if they decided that you and anyone similar to you had to be put in a concentration camp? You'd fucking care then. Vote please. Until you do, you can't complain about jack shit.

"It won't make a difference" - The worst of them. Every vote is counted. All of them. If everybody had your pessimistic attitude towards this, then we'd never achieve anything. The people who feel like they can make a difference vote. They are the people who make the choices.

"I'm working" - 7am to 10pm? I doubt it. You get a break in that time even if you are working those hours, go vote then. Please just do it.

Just vote. Go register and vote. I'm rather left wing, but I don't give a shit even if you want to vote Conservative/UKIP or anyone. I will be happy with whoever you vote for, as long as you have voted.

If you feel the same way about voting, let me know if you have any ideas how to make my apathetic friends vote. Or let others know how you feel.
